Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Libra does and does not do with your data. It covers the Libra app for iPhone and iPad and this website (libra-reader.com).
The short version: Libra has no account to sign up for, shows no ads, and sells nothing about you. The app works entirely with files you already own, and the small amount of anonymous diagnostic data it can send is optional and easy to turn off.
Effective date: 15 June 2026
Anonymous diagnostics (optional, off-switch in Settings)
Libra can send a small amount of anonymous information that helps us find crashes and understand which features are used. This is opt-out: you can turn it off at any time in Settings using the “Anonymous usage & crash data” switch. That switch is a single kill-switch that stops all of it.
When it is on, two kinds of anonymous data may be sent:
- Crash and error diagnostics (via Sentry) — technical reports that help us fix bugs. A crash report may contain file paths, file names, or book titles as part of the error details. We cannot always strip these out of a crash message, so we mention it plainly here.
- Anonymous usage analytics (via Aptabase) — aggregate counts of which features are used, so we know what to improve.
Sentry and Aptabase act as data processors on our behalf. Each has its own privacy policy linked above; data sent to them is subject to their retention and deletion policies.
What this data is not:
- It is not used for tracking you across apps or websites.
- It is not linked to your identity — there is no account, name, or email attached to it.
- It uses no advertising identifier (IDFA) and feeds no advertising or data brokers.
- It is anonymous and aggregate only.
If a diagnostic key is not configured in a given build, nothing is sent at all.
Legal basis (GDPR): We process this data on the basis of our legitimate interest in maintaining a stable and functional app. Because the data is anonymous and the switch to disable it is prominent and easy to use, we consider this interest proportionate. You can object at any time by turning the switch off.
Your cloud storage connections
Libra can connect to cloud storage you already use — Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Yandex Disk, and iCloud — so you can read books you keep there.
- When you connect a provider, Libra reads the folder and file information it needs to find your books — it lists file and folder names, paths, and types to identify supported formats and skip the rest — and downloads the book files you open. For services that use a dedicated app folder, connecting may create that folder for Libra to work in. Libra uses this access only to build and read your library, and never uses your files for advertising, profiling, or any unrelated purpose.
- The access each provider grants is not the same, because it depends on what the provider offers:
- Google Drive asks for access to the files in your Drive. This is a broad permission set by Google’s sign-in options; Libra uses it only to locate and read your book files.
- OneDrive and Yandex Disk are limited to a dedicated app folder, so Libra can reach only the files kept in that folder.
- Dropbox is granted read-only access to your files, so Libra can open your books but cannot change or delete anything.
- iCloud uses Apple’s own system access on your device.
- The sign-in tokens that authorize this access are stored on your device only (in the iOS Keychain). They are never sent to us and we never see them.
- When you disconnect a provider in the app, the stored tokens for it are cleared from your device.
OPDS catalogs
Libra lets you add OPDS catalogs — online book catalogs you choose. When you add one, the app fetches the catalog listing and book content directly from that third-party server, over the network. Those servers are operated by whoever you chose to add, not by us, and their use is governed by their own terms and privacy practices.
iCloud / CloudKit sync
If you use iCloud sync, your reading data — such as your library and reading progress — syncs through your own private iCloud account. We run no server that holds your data; this sync stays between your devices and Apple’s iCloud.
What Libra does not do
- No app account. There is nothing to sign up for, and nothing on our side to delete — we hold no account for you.
- No ads.
- No selling or sharing of your data with data brokers.
- No cross-app tracking.
Your rights
Because we hold no account and no personal data on our servers, most data subject rights apply to what the third-party processors (Sentry, Aptabase) hold — and the simplest way to exercise them is to turn off the diagnostics switch, which stops all further collection.
If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the following rights under the GDPR:
- Access and portability — the right to know what data is held about you and to receive it in a portable format.
- Rectification — the right to have inaccurate data corrected.
- Erasure — the right to request deletion of your data.
- Objection — the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests. You can exercise this at any time by disabling the diagnostics switch in Settings.
- Restriction — the right to request that processing be limited in certain circumstances.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@libra-reader.com and we will assist you or direct your request to the relevant processor.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
Security
All network traffic initiated by the App — optional diagnostics and the official cloud-provider sign-in and sync (Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Yandex Disk, iCloud) — uses HTTPS/TLS.
One exception is in your hands: an OPDS catalog you add yourself connects to whatever address you supply. If you enter a plain http:// address, that connection is not encrypted. The security of that traffic depends on the catalog you chose to add.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date above and notify you via a notice in the App. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
