What you can save
- Bookmarks record a position. They do not require selecting text.
- Highlights mark selected text with a colour.
- Notes store your text with a highlighted passage.
Your current reading position is saved automatically. Bookmarks let you keep additional positions to return to later.
Add or remove a bookmark
Open the page you want to save and show the reader controls. Tap the bookmark button. It changes to the active state when the position is bookmarked.
To remove that bookmark, return to its position and tap the active bookmark button again.
Highlight a passage
- Press and hold on the text, then adjust the selection to include the passage.
- Use Mark in the selection controls to save a highlight.
- Tap an existing highlight to open its controls. Choose a colour swatch to change its colour.
The highlight controls also include a delete action for removing the saved highlight.
Write a note
Select a passage and choose Note. Enter your text and tap Save. Libra saves the passage as a highlight with the note attached.
You can also tap an existing highlight and use Note or Edit note to add or change its note.
Find saved passages
While reading, open the Book menu. Select Bookmarks to see saved positions, or Notes to see highlights and their notes. On a narrow screen, Bookmarks may be labelled Marks.
Tap a bookmark to return to its position. The Notes tab displays saved quotations and notes; its entries do not jump to the passage. You can also open a book’s details from Library to review its saved items.
The Share button in the Notes tab opens sharing options for the book’s notes.
Text selection and file formats
Highlights and notes require selectable text. Text-based books support selection; a PDF must contain a text layer. Image-only PDF pages and CBZ comic images do not provide selectable text. You can still bookmark a page.
Saved items belong to the book’s content. A different edition or a converted file can be treated as a different book. To use the same notes on another Apple device, see sync between devices.
